    2007–2008 Company Awards

    Gold 2007 eHealthcare Leadership Award
    ARUP Consult®, The Physician’s Guide to Laboratory Test Selection and Interpretation, was selected from more than 1,100 entries and recognized in the area of Best Design for Physician/Clinician-Focused Web Site.

    Healthy Worksite Award
    ARUP received this award from the Utah Council for Worksite Health Promotion in recognition of its commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle at the workplace (2004–2007).

    2007–2008 executive and medical director awards

    2007 ASCP Ward Burdick Award for Distinguished Service to Clinical Pathology—Dr. Ronald L. Weiss
    Dr. Weiss, ARUP president and COO, received this award, which is given annually to an ASCP member who has made a significant contribution to pathology through sustained service to the profession and the ASCP.

    Gorlin Visiting Professor—Dr. Gary Ellis
    ARUP’s medical director Dr. Gary Ellis, considered by many to be the world’s foremost expert on salivary gland tumors, was selected to be the first Gorlin Visiting Professor at the Gorlin Conference on Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology (2007).

    2007 College of American Pathologists (CAP) Foundation’s Humanitarian Grant—Dr. Cathy Petti
    ARUP medical director Dr. Cathy Petti was awarded this grant, which funds pathology and medical services to underserved patients and in underdeveloped areas.

    Eminent Scientist of the Year 2007—Dr. James Wu
    ARUP’s former medical director Dr. James Wu (now deceased) was awarded the Eminent Scientist of the Year 2007 in the field of laboratory science and medical research from the International Research Promotion Council (IRPC).

    2005–2006 company awards

    American Psychological Association's National Psychologically Healthy Workplace Award
    ARUP was chosen from over 250 candidates as one of only two large companies to be recognized with this award (2006).

    Health Care Heroes Award
    ARUP was a recipient of Utah Business magazine's inaugural award, created to honor the contributions of distinguished individuals and companies and to recognize their excellence, innovation, and contribution to quality of health care in Utah (2006).

    Alfred P. Sloan Award for Excellence in Workplace Flexibility
    ARUP received this award for workplace flexibility in the greater Salt Lake City area (2005, 2006).

    Best Value Amongst National Reference Laboratories
    Laboratory Industry Report's first and second National Esoteric Testing Survey concluded that ARUP offers the best level value amongst all national reference laboratories (2002, 2005).

    Best Companies Award
    ARUP was recognized as a best company by the Department of Workforce Services/Office of Child Care (2005).

    2005 Commuter Vision Award
    ARUP received this award, which recognizes businesses that have made significant contributions to establish and maintain alternative transportation options, from the Utah Transit Authority (2005).

    ASCP Ward Burdick Award—Dr. John M. Matsen
    Former ARUP president, CEO, and chair of the board, Dr. Matsen received this award, given annually to an ASCP member who has made a significant contribution to pathology through sustained service to the profession and the ASCP, for his distinguished service to clinical pathology (2006).

    Dr. Robert I. White, Jr. Young Clinician’s Award—Dr. Pinar Bayrak-Toydemir
    Dr. Bayrak-Toydemir, assistant medical director of the Molecular Genetics Laboratory, received this award from the International Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia Foundation (2006).

    Myeloproliferate Disorders Research Consortium Research Grant—Dr. Josef T. Prchal
    Medical director of Special Genetics at ARUP and professor of internal medicine in the Division of Hematology at the University of Utah's Medical School, Dr. Prchal received more than $2 million to conduct research and clinical trials as a part of the Myeloproliferate Disorders Research Consortium. The University of Utah and Dr. Prchal are working with eight other institutions worldwide to advance research about incurable blood disorders, including some forms of leukemia (2006).

    2006 Academy of Clinical Laboratory Physicians and Scientists' (ACLPS) Gerald T. Evans Award—Dr. William L. Roberts
    Dr. Roberts was honored with this award, which is presented annually to a member for outstanding leadership and/or service to the society.

    Society for Hematopathology—Dr. Carl R. Kjeldsberg
    CEO and chair of the board, Dr. Kjeldsberg was appointed vice president and president elect of the Society for Hematopathology. He will serve as vice president from 2006 through 2008 and as president from 2008 through 2010.

    2006 Young Investigator Award—Dr. Kojo Elenitoba-Johnson
    ARUP medical director Dr. Elenitoba-Johnson received this award, granted to a member of USCAP, under the age of 45, in recognition of a productive scientific career that has contributed in a major way to the understanding of the pathogenesis of a human disease, from the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP).

    American Clinical Laboratory Association (ACLA)—Dr. Ronald Weiss
    In January 2006, Dr. Weiss was appointed chairman of the Board of Directors of the American Clinical Laboratory Association (ACLA) in Washington, DC. He will serve in this voluntary capacity until 2008.

    IFCC-Abbott Molecular Diagnostics Award—Dr. Carl Wittwer
    ARUP medical director Dr. Wittwer was honored with this award for significant contributions to molecular diagnostics (2005).

    Professor Alvin Dubin Award—Dr. Charles Hawker
    ARUP scientific director Dr. Hawker received this award for distinguished contributions to the discipline and practice of clinical biochemistry from the National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry (2005).

    Institute for Quality in Laboratory Medicine (IQLM)—Dr. Carl Wittwer
    Dr. Wittwer was honored for his achievements in technical advancement (2005).

    2000–2004 company awards

    High-Tech 20 Companies
    ARUP was named a high-tech company by Utah Business magazine (2004).

    Top Cargo Revenue Performance–737 Group Award
    United Airlines presented ARUP with this award, which recognizes clients who lead their group in revenue generation for United Cargo (2004).

    Utah Innovation Awards
    ARUP was nominated in the medical-devices category and selected as one of the finalists (2004).

    Utah's Top 10 Family-Friendly Companies
    ARUP was recognized by the Department of Workforce Services for being one of Utah's top family-friendly companies (2000, 2001, 2003, 2004).

    American Psychological Association’s Psychologically Healthy Workplace Award: Best Practices Honors
    ARUP was selected as one of 16 national recipients of this award (2003).

    Philadelphia State Corporate Recognition Award
    ARUP received this award from the Pennsylvania Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (2003).

    Health's Top 10 Healthiest Companies for Women 2003
    ARUP Laboratories was selected as one of the healthiest companies for women by Health magazine, thanks to benefits like a free on-site health clinic, on-site café that consistently serves a variety of healthy entrees, a free on-site fitness center, and a subsidized on-site child-care facility.

    Service Excellence Award
    ARUP was awarded Novation's annual award in recognition of its excellent service to academic medical centers across the country (2002).

    2002 Winter Olympic Games
    ARUP was involved with the national and community efforts to make the 2002 Winter Olympic Games successful. ARUP helped to staff and manage the Olympic polyclinic that served athletes and others in the Olympic Village, housed the Olympic drug-testing laboratory, and supported the University of Utah Health Sciences Center designated as the Olympic family hospital.

    Utah Historical Society Heritage Recognition
    ARUP was highlighted in Grace & Grandeur, a Utah Historical Society Heritage 2002 book.

    Top Five Private Utah Employers
    ARUP was pictured on the cover of Utah Business magazine and named one of its top five private employers in Utah in the magazine's feature article, "Utah's Best Companies to Work For" (2001).

    2004 ASCP Ward Burdick Award—Dr. Joseph Knight
    ARUP's first director Dr. Knight received this award for his distinguished service to clinical pathology.

    Utah's 100 Most Influential People—Dr. Kjeldsberg
    Dr. Kjeldsberg was honored by Utah Business magazine.

    University of Utah Life-Altering Research—Dr. Carl Wittwer
    ARUP medical director Dr. Carl Wittwer was honored by the University of Utah for his research and collaboration with education in nurturing technological research, innovation, and marketing in Utah (2004).

    2004 AACC TDM/Toxicology Division Young Investigator Award—Dr. Gwen McMillin
    Dr. McMillin was selected as a recipient for this award, which recognizes persons under age 40 who are actively engaged in the laboratory practice of therapeutic drug monitoring or toxicology and have contributed to the profession through research, publication, or teaching in these fields.

    AACC Award—Dr. Carl Wittwer
    Dr. Wittwer was selected as the 2004 recipient for his outstanding contributions to clinical chemistry in a selected area of research.

    Association of Clinical Scientists' Diploma of Honor—Dr. Lily Wu
    Dr. Lily Wu was recognized for her significant contributions to clinical science (2004).

    The Best Doctors in America
    Ten members of ARUP's staff and the Department of Pathology, including Dr. Kjeldsberg, were included in The Best Doctors in America, published in 2004 by Woodward/White Inc., S Naifeh, GW Smith (editors).

    Mountain West Venture Group's Entrepreneur of the Year 2003—Dr. Kjeldsberg
    Dr. Kjeldsberg was honored by Mountain West Venture Group as the 2003 Entrepreneur of the Year after his efforts to create a better workplace at ARUP received broad recognition.

    2002 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards—Dr. Kjeldsberg
    Dr. Kjeldsberg was one of the 24 finalists selected from over 50 nominees in Utah.
