Specimen Required: Patient Prep: The following items should be avoided for 7 days prior to and during collection: Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen, naproxen, or aspirin (if ingesting more than one adult aspirin per day).
The following items should be avoided for 3 days prior to and during collection: Vitamin C supplements in excess of 250 mg a day, citrus juices, citrus fruits, or red meats. Acetaminophen (Tylenol) can be taken.


Collect: Stool.

Specimen Preparation: Transfer 5 g stool to an unpreserved stool transport vial (ARUP Supply #40910). Available online through eSupply using ARUP Connect™or contact ARUP Client Services at (800) 522-2787. (Min: 1 g)

Storage/Transport Temperature: Frozen.

Unacceptable Conditions: Gastric specimens, refer to Occult Blood, Gastric (ARUP test code 0060310). Specimens in media or preservatives.

Stability (collection to initiation of testing): Ambient: 1 hour; Refrigerated: 36 hours; Frozen: 72 hours
