Specimen Preparation: Formalin fix (10 percent neutral buffered formalin is preferred) and paraffin embed specimen. Protect paraffin block and/or slides from excessive heat. Transport tissue block or 5 unstained (3-5 micron thick sections), positively charged slides in a tissue transport kit (ARUP supply #47808). Stability (collection to initiation of testing): Ambient: Indefinitely; Refrigerated: Indefinitely; Frozen: Unacceptable

Interpretive Data: The Ki-67 antigen is used to estimate the growth fraction of a tumor cell population. In many malignancies, a high Ki-67 value generally correlates with an aggressive behavior. Results of this test should be interpreted with caution on the context of other data.
Assay is performed on paraffin-embedded, formalin-fixed tissue. Antibody clone is MIB-1 and the detection system is LSAB.
