Specimen Required: Patient Prep: Draw specimens 12 hours after initiating therapy for arrhythmia prophylaxis, then every 24 hours thereafter.

Collect: Plain red. Also acceptable: green (sodium heparin).

Specimen Preparation: Separate serum from cells immediately. Transfer 1 mL serum to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. (Min: 0.5 mL)

Storage/Transport Temperature: Refrigerated.

Unacceptable Conditions: Separator tubes, Lavender (EDTA), or gray (sodium fluoride/potassium oxalate).

Stability (collection to initiation of testing): After separation from cells: Ambient: 1 week; Refrigerated: 1 week; Frozen: 1 month
