Wildcards Symbol (*)

The wildcard symbol (*) can be used in place of letters or characters in query words to search for different permutations of a word.

*	Can be in any position in the term and matches any number of characters.
Examples:	hemo*	matches hemolytic, hemophilia and hemophilia
	*NA	matches DNA and RNA
	*tet**	matches text and test
	BCL*	matches bcl-1/JH and bcl-2/JH
	virus*	matches virus or viruses
	*glucan*	matches beta-1,3-d-Glucan

Boolean Parameters

Search terms can be a single word or several words. The search engine automatically inserts and between words if nothing else is specified, so the Boolean term and can be omitted in search terms. For example, searching for tissue assay is the same as searching for tissue AND assay.

Quotes can be used to search for phrases. For example:

"tissue assay "

Words must be present in the specified order with no intervening words

The following boolean connectors can be used: AND, OR, NOT Examples:

Ordering Recommendation:	This test is NOT recommended for pregnant women as it has been associated with false positives in these individuals.
Methodology:	Polymerase Chain Reaction
Performed:	Sun-Sat
Reported:	7-10 days
Specimen Required:	Collect: Lavender (EDTA). Collect a minimum of 10 mL whole blood. Also acceptable: Collection kits available upon request (ARUP supply #46270). Available online through eSupply using ARUP Connect™ or contact ARUP Client Services at (800) 522-2787. Specimen Preparation: Allow whole blood to sit for 30 minutes post draw. Within 4 hours of collection, spin (1350 g ) for 12 minutes. Transfer plasma to a 15 mL conical tube. Spin plasma for another 12 minutes at the same speed. Transfer 4 mL of plasma to a 4 mL cryovial tube or any freezable specimen transport tube. (Min: 4 mL). Storage/Transport Temperature: Frozen. Remarks: Accurate test performance requires following specimen preparation instructions. Unacceptable Conditions: Refrigerated or room temperature plasma. Whole blood, serum, or stool. Less than 4 mL of plasma. Stability (collection to initiation of testing): Ambient: Unacceptable; Refrigerated: Unacceptable; Frozen: Indefinitely
